Incorporating sustainability into a building’s design should not mean compromising on the bottom line, rather the focus should be on quality, value, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

A new approach to design and sustainability with improving the human experience at its core, WELL serves to complement the LEED ratings system by creating commercial and residential environments that serve to enhance and improve occupant’s health and wellbeing. A company’s biggest asset, and greatest investment, is its people. WELL proves that it pays to keep the human factor at the heart of building design.

The advent of 3D modeling, BIM and parametric design have fundamentally changed the traditional approach to design and development and the architectural envelope industry. This session will explore the latest trends in building modeling software and technology and how the ability to capture, manage and analyse large amounts of data results in more efficient, sustainable and cost-effective buildings.
Christopher Tebb, BIM Practice Leader, Mott MacDonald
The building industry in the Gulf Region is continuously demanding higher performance and efficiency, whilst persistently aspiring for iconic stature. However, after the global financial crisis of 2008 and the significantly lower oil prices since 2015, the allocated resources per project have become increasingly tighter. Subsequently, the gap between the aspiration of clients and the industry’s ability to deliver has been growing wider. ‘Value engineering’ is now in many cases better described as ‘false economy’ where buildings are losing quality and value due to attempts to cut down on design and construction costs. This session will look at ways to improve a building’s design quality by designing value under budget constraints and a delivery programme to offer more inspiring and sustainable solutions.
Abdulmajid Karanouh, Director - Head of Innovation, Design, Facades & Sustainability, Ramboll
In current economic conditions markets are tight and businesses are facing more competition than ever before, resulting in a significant downward pressure on costs. Budgets are being squeezed and every element of a project is under scrutiny with all stakeholders affected. This session aims to bring together representatives from key stakeholder groups involved from concept to completion in active and productive dialogue around key challenges facing project costing and working towards a collaborative approach to building commissioning.
